Description

Disc Brake Rotor Replacement on Your Mercedes-Benz Van

> Those disc brake rotors on your Mercedes-Benz Viano or Vito are proper important, mate. They cop a hiding, turning all that moving energy into heat every time you hit the brakes. Over time, they wear down – especially on vans doing the hard yards – which means your braking won't be as flash, and things could get dicey.

Symptoms That Led You Here
• Squealing like a gutted pig when you brake
• The steering wheel's doing the shimmy when you hit the anchors
• Taking longer to pull up than you'd like
• Rotors look like they've been through a war
• Brake pads wearing unevenly – not ideal

Will it pass WOF?
Dodgy brake rotors are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. They need to be above the minimum thickness and not cracked or rooted to pass the test.

DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 2-3 hours per axle
Tools Required: Jack and stands, wheel wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, replacement brake pads (recommended), rotor removal tool (optional).

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Alright, before you get cracking on those brakes, let's make sure you're set up for success. Safety first, always!
• Safety Glasses: Don't want any of that brake dust or crud flying in your eyes. Safety Glasses are cheap as chips insurance.
• Nitrile Gloves: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Keep your hands clean and protected with a decent pair of Nitrile Gloves.
• Brake Cleaner: This stuff is gold for blasting away brake dust and grime. Give everything a good spray before you start pulling things apart. Grab a can of Brake Cleaner.
• Caliper Grease: When you're putting things back together, a bit of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will keep everything moving smoothly and prevent squeals. You can find it at Bob's Shop.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
