Description

Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — The TRW Way
> Brake pads, eh? They're what stop your pride and joy, especially important on family wagons like the Volvo XC60 and Ford Galaxy that get put through their paces. Over time, they wear down, and your braking goes to custard.
Uh Oh... Sound Familiar?
• Brakes squealing like a rusty gate?
• Taking longer to pull up at the lights?
• Brake pedal feeling a bit soft, like a sponge?
• Pads look thinner than a cafe lunch?
• That pesky brake warning light's lit up on the dash?
WOF Woes?
Worn brake pads are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. They need decent thickness to pull you up safely. Have a squiz at the Land Transport NZ guidelines to be certain.

Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 2-3 hours
Gear You'll Need: Jack, stands, spanners, sockets, brake cleaner, pad spreader, torque wrench.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get stuck in, mate, safety first! Never get under a car supported only by a jack. Use proper axle stands. Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean from that brake dust – nasty stuff! Give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of the carbon dust, and a touch of anti-seize on the caliper bolts will make life easier next time. Don't forget your safety glasses to keep the grit out of your eyes!
Bob's Two Cents
Replacing your brake pads is a no-brainer for safe driving. Buggered pads mean longer stopping distances, which is risky, especially in bigger vehicles like the Volvo V70 and Ford S-Max. TRW pads (GDB1685) are a bloody good choice, but CARFIX has options for every budget. Pop into Bob's Shop for a yarn, and we'll sort you out with the right parts for your beast!
Fitment Notes
Make sure you get the right pads for your exact model and brake type. Some Volvos and Fords have different setups. Double-check the manufacturer's specs before you start wrenching.

🛠️ Bob's Pro Tip: Do the Job Right!
> If you're swapping out these parts on your vehicle Vito, don't skimp on fresh rotors. Check out our compatible TRW Disc Brake Rotors (Part No. DF4356S) to ensure a perfect bed-in and get the job done properly first time!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
