Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — The TRW Way
> Brake pads? They're the unsung heroes that clamp down on your brake rotors, bringing you to a halt. They wear down over time, especially in vehicles like those classic Alfa Romeos and VW Kombis that have seen a few dusty metal tracks.
Signs It's Time for a Change
• Hear a squeal or grind when you hit the brakes?
• Braking feels a bit slow to respond?
• Pedal feels soft, like you're stepping on a sponge?
• Pads look thin or worn to bits?
• That pesky brake light's glaring at you from the dash?
WOF Woes?
Dodgy brake pads are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. Your pads need enough meat on them to pull you up safely. Check out the Land Transport NZ guidelines to be dead sure.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, grab these must-haves to make the job a piece of cake and keep you safe:
• Brake Cleaner: Blast away that nasty brake dust with a can of Brake Cleaner. Keeps everything spick and span.
• Anti-Seize Caliper Grease: A little dab of this stuff stops things seizing up, especially important in tough conditions. Grab some from Bob's Shop.
• Safety Glasses: No one wants brake dust in their eyes! Protect your peepers with some good Safety Glasses.
• Nitrile Gloves: Keep your hands clean and protected. A decent set of Nitrile Gloves is a no-brainer.
And remember, never get under a car that's only held up by a jack! Use proper stands – safety first, always.
Bob's Two Cents
Keeping your brake pads in good nick is vital for safe motoring. Worn pads mean longer stopping distances, and that's a recipe for disaster. Pop into Bob's Shop, and we'll sort you out with the right bits for your ride!
Fitment Notes
Make double sure those pads are the right fit for your vehicle and brake setup. Some older vehicles can be a bit quirky when it comes to pads. Always swap out pads in pairs (both sides) for even braking. And give those brake rotors a good once-over – replace them if they're looking tired.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
