Chassis code now leads CARFIX's rego lookup

CARFIX's rego lookup now reads a car's chassis code first. It tells apart variants that share a name but not their parts, so owners can keep their cars safe and on the road.

AUCKLAND, 30 September 2026 — CARFIX's rego lookup now uses the vehicle's chassis code first, before the model name, to decide exactly which version of a car it is. It matters most for the imports common on New Zealand roads, where one model name can cover several variants with different engines, drive types and parts.

Where two variants still look alike, CARFIX separates them by the details that actually change the parts, rather than offering look-alike choices. The aim is the right part, first time. That helps keep cars safe and reliable, and keeps the fleet running instead of heading for the scrap heap. Repairing and maintaining a car you already own is kinder to our environment than a throwaway culture that swaps it for a shiny new replacement.

CARFIX wants owners to look after their own vehicles, and Bob, its AI parts expert, makes that easier. He draws on training in mechanical engineering, a detailed understanding of fault codes, and the ability to help find the right part. For a New Zealand business with a global outlook, getting the identification right is where that help begins.

Two cars can wear the same badge and need different brakes. The chassis code tells me which one you’ve got, so you can fix it properly and keep it on the road.
