Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — RDA's the Go!
> Brake pads? Yeah, they're what slows you down, turning your car's go-juice into a bit of heat on the rotors. They wear out over time, meaning less stopping power – not ideal in bigger rigs like the Nissan Elgrand and X-Trail which need to pull up sharpish.
Tell-tale Signs You've Got Issues
• Brakes sound like a flock of seagulls or a metal grinder.
• Braking feels weak as, or takes ages.
• Pedal feels soft and gives you no confidence.
• Pads look rooted or just plain missing chunks.
• That pesky brake light's glaring at ya from the dash.
WOF Worthy?
Worn pads are a guaranteed WOF fail here in NZ. They gotta be thick enough to do the job. Check the Land Transport NZ guidelines for the minimum legal thickness.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack. Use proper jack stands – your life's worth it. And chuck on some safety glasses to keep the brake dust out of your peepers.
• Cleanliness is Key: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner before you start pulling things apart. It'll make the job heaps cleaner and safer.
• Protect Your Investment: A wee smear of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will keep things moving smoothly and prevent squeaks. Trust me, your ears will thank you.
• Consumables, Sorted: Grab some heavy-duty Nitrile Gloves – keeps the hands clean from brake dust, which is particularly tough to remove.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
