Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — Featuring RDA
> Your disc brake rotors are a seriously important bit of your braking system. They wear down over time thanks to friction with the brake pads, especially if you're doing a lot of stop-start driving around town in your Honda Fit or Rover 45. Don't get caught out with a dodgy WOF!

Spotting the Warning Signs
• Hear a nasty squealing or grinding when you hit the brakes?
• Feel a shudder or thumping through the brake pedal?
• Taking longer to stop than usual? Not ideal, mate.
• Rotors look scored, cracked, or rusty? Time for a change.

WOF Woes?
Worn or rooted brake rotors are a classic reason for failing a WOF here in New Zealand. Your rotors need to be above the minimum thickness and free from cracks to pass the test.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, grab these essentials to keep the job safe and tidy:
• Brake Cleaner: Blast away that brake dust – it's nasty stuff and you don't want to breathe it in.
• Caliper Grease: A little dab of anti-seize on the right spots will make your life easier next time.
• Safety Glasses: Protect your peepers from flying grit and brake dust.
• Nitrile Gloves: Keep your hands clean and avoid getting brake dust on your skin.

And a golden rule: Never, ever get under a car that's only supported by a jack. Use proper axle stands – your life's worth it!

Fitment Notes
Double-check that the new rotor is the same size and spec as the old one for your exact Honda or Rover model. Some models have different rotor sizes or bolt patterns, so get it right.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
