Description

Swapping Out Your BMW's Disc Brake Rotors — TRW Style
> Disc brake rotors are a seriously important bit of kit for stopping your BMW. They wear down over time – it's just friction doing its thing. This means dodgy braking, maybe some shuddering, and could be a safety issue, especially if you give it the beans on the open road.
What Clued You In?
• Brakes sound like a startled pig?
• Steering wheel doing the Macarena when you brake?
• Brakes not as sharp as they used to be?
• Rotors look like they've been attacked by a grinder?
• That pesky brake pad warning light is on?
WOF Worries?
Dodgy brake rotors are a surefire way to fail a WOF here in NZ. They gotta be thick enough and not too beat up to pass the test.
DIY or Hand it Over?
Difficulty: 6/10 (not a cafe lunch)
Time Needed: An hour or two per rotor
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands (never skip on safety!), lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, caliper compressor (maybe).
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Mates!: Never, ever get under your BMW when it's only held up by a jack. Use proper axle stands – it's a no-brainer.
• Brake Cleaner is Your Friend: Blast away all that brake dust and grime with a can of Brake Cleaner before you start pulling things apart. Keeps things clean and helps you spot any issues.
• Anti-Seize on the Threads: A little dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper bolts will make your life a million times easier next time you're in there. Trust me.
• Glove Up!: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Protect your hands with some heavy-duty Nitrile Gloves. Your skin will thank you for it.
• Eye Protection: Keep stray dust and debris out of your peepers with safety glasses. Safety specs are cheap insurance.
Bob's Two Cents
Worn rotors mean your Beemer's not stopping as well as it should, and that's not ideal. Swapping them out keeps you safe and stops other parts from getting damaged. If you're not sure, head over to Bob's Shop and let's get you sorted!
Fitment Lowdown
Double-check these rotors fit your exact BMW model and year. Some models have different sizes, and you might need special tools. Gutted if you end up with the wrong size, eh?

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
