Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — Featuring RDA
> Brake pads are like the jandals of your car's braking system; they wear out over time! They clamp down on the rotors to slow you down, turning all that motion into a bit of heat. But when they get too thin, your braking goes to custard, especially if you're zipping around town in a Civic or Fit.
Uh Oh, Sounds Like You've Got These Symptoms:
• Brakes are squealing like a stuck pig or grinding like you're shredding metal?
• Taking ages to pull up at the lights?
• Pedal's vibrating like a cellphone on silent?
• Brake pedal feels soft as butter?
• Pads are thinner than a cafe lunch receipt (less than 3mm)?
WOF Time? Gutted, You'll Fail!
Worn brake pads are a no-go for a WOF, mate. They need to have enough meat left (usually over 1.5mm, but 3mm is safer) and work properly without sounding like a freight train. Skimping on this is asking for trouble and could end up real nasty.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
