Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — The RDA Way
> Disc brake rotors are a seriously important bit of kit for your Subaru's braking. They're the surface the brake pads squeeze against to bring you to a halt. Over time, especially with a gutsy WRX or just daily driving in your Legacy, these rotors can wear thin, warp, or even crack. Not ideal, eh?

What Clued You In?
• Brake pedal feels like it's pulsing or vibrating? That's not a good sign.
• Brakes squealing or grinding? Sounds like a train pulling into the station?
• Taking longer to stop than usual? Scary stuff.
• Rotors look like they've seen better days? Cracks or deep grooves?
• Brake pads wearing unevenly? Something's definitely up.

WOF Woes?
Worn brake rotors are a classic reason for failing a WOF here in NZ. They need to be above the minimum thickness and free from cracks to pass the test.

Tools You'll Need: Jack and stands (never skimp on safety!), lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner (that carbon dust is nasty!), and maybe a brake caliper tool.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you dive in, mate, a few quick things to make the job smoother and safer:
• Safety First, Eh? Never, ever get under a car that's only supported by a jack. Use proper axle stands – your life's worth it! And chuck on some Safety Glasses to keep the crud out of your eyes.
• Keep It Clean: Brake dust is a bugger. Grab a can of Brake Cleaner to blast it off the rotors and calipers. Makes the job cleaner and helps your new rotors bed in properly.
• Hands? Protected: Those brake parts can be rough on the skin. A decent set of Nitrile Gloves will keep your hands clean and scratch-free.
• Grease is the Word: When reassembling, a dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will stop things seizing up later. Worth its weight in gold, that stuff.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
