Description

Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — TRW Style
> Brake pads? Yeah, they're kinda important. They squeeze against the rotors to slow you down, turning all that go-power into a bit of heat. They wear out over time, especially on our older European models, so keep an eye on 'em.
Reckon You Need New Pads? Check For:
• Squeals and screeches when you hit the brakes
• Brakes feeling a bit soft or slow to respond
• Taking longer to pull up than usual
• The steering wheel or pedal vibrating when you brake
• Visibly thin or damaged pads
WOF Woes?
Dodgy brake pads are a surefire way to fail your WOF. They gotta be thick enough to do the job, or you're walking!
DIY or Get a Pro?
Difficulty: 6/10
Time Needed: 2-4 hours (give or take, depending on your skills)
Gear You'll Need: Jack, stands, spanners, sockets, brake cleaner, and a brake spreader (or C-clamp will do)
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Alright, before you get cracking, a few things to keep you safe and the job tidy:
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under a car that's only held up by a jack. Use proper axle stands. Your life's worth more than a cafe lunch, eh?
• Blast That Brake Dust: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Give everything a good spray with Brake Cleaner to keep it under control. Plus, clean rotors mean better braking!
• Glove Up: Keep your hands clean(ish) with some heavy-duty Nitrile Gloves. Brake cleaner and brake dust aren't your skin's best mates.
• Grease is the Word: A smear of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots stops things seizing up later. Worth its weight in gold, that stuff.

Important Fitment Stuff
Double-check these pads fit your exact car model and year. Some have different brake setups. Always do both sides at once for even braking. It's a no-brainer, really.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
