Swapping Out Your BMW 5 Series Brake Rotors — With a TRW Rotor
> Your BMW 5 Series' rotors are key for good stopping power. They're the bit the brake pads clamp on to. Over time, especially if you give your BMW a good thrashing, they can wear, warp, or even crack. Keeping them tip-top is a no-brainer for safety.
What Clued You In?
• Brakes are squealing like a gutted pig or grinding something shocking?
• Brake pedal's vibrating like crazy?
• Rotors look like they've been through the wringer – scoring, cracks, rust?
• Taking longer to pull up at the lights?
WOF Woes?
Dodgy brake rotors are a real WOF killer here in NZ. They need to be above minimum thickness and free from major damage to pass the test. Don't get caught out!

How Hard? 6/10 (a bit of a cafe lunch)
Time Needed: 2-3 hours per axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands (never get under a car supported only by a jack!), lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, and some brake cleaner. A brake caliper tool might come in handy too.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you start yanking things apart, grab these essentials:
• Safety First: A decent pair of Safety Glasses to keep the brake dust out of your eyes. Trust me, you don't want that.
• Glove Up: Nitrile Gloves. Brake dust is filthy. Keep your hands clean. Get the heavy-duty ones; they'll last longer.
• Brake Cleaner: Brake Cleaner is your best mate here. Blast all that carbon dust off the new rotors before you fit them. Also, use it to clean the calipers.
• Caliper Grease: A smear of Anti-Seize Caliper Grease on the caliper pins will keep everything moving smoothly and prevent annoying squeals down the line.
