Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — Featuring RDA
> Brake pads are the unsung heroes of your Mazda's braking system, turning all that forward motion into heat when you hit the brakes. Over time, they wear down, especially in a Mazda 6 or Mazda 3 Axela Hybrid that sees everything from city streets to open highways. It's a no-brainer to keep them in good nick.
Spotted Any of These Warning Signs?
• Brakes making a racket? Squealing or grinding noises are a dead giveaway.
• Braking feels a bit dodgy? Longer stopping distances are never a good sign.
• That pesky brake pad warning light's lit up on your dash.
• Pads look thinner than a cafe lunch slice of ham?
• Pads wearing unevenly? That's not ideal.
WOF Woes?
Worn brake pads are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. They need to be above a minimum thickness to keep you safe on the roads.

Before you dive in, a few quick words from Bob to keep you safe and get a top-notch result:
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack. Use proper jack stands – your life depends on it!
• Keep it Clean: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Use plenty of Brake Cleaner to blast away the muck before you start. And give everything a good clean before reassembly.
• Protect Your Hands: Brake cleaner and old brake pads aren't exactly kind to your skin. Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean and protected.
• Don't Forget the Grease: A little dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will keep things moving smoothly and prevent annoying squeals. Ask Bob about the right grease!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
