Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — With RDA
> Brake pads, eh? They're your car's last line of defence, turning speed into 'stopped' using good ol' friction. They wear down over time, no doubt about it, especially if you're a bit heavy on the foot. Time for a change to keep your HSV or Holden pulling up like it should.
Tell-tale Signs You're Due for a Change
• Brakes sound like a flock of seagulls having a barney?
• Pedal feeling a bit soft, aye?
• Taking longer to pull up at the lights?
• Steering wheel doing the Macarena when you hit the brakes?
• Pads look thinner than a poorly made cafe lunch?
WOF Time Looming?
Dodgy brakes are a surefire way to fail your WOF in NZ. Those pads need to be up to scratch to keep you, your mates, and everyone else on the road safe.

Difficulty: 6/10
Time Needed: Give yourself 2-3 hours, plus smoko breaks.
Gear You'll Need: Jack, stands, spanners, sockets, brake cleaner, a G-clamp or brake spreader, torque wrench (don't guess it!).
Expert Advice
Look, keeping your brake pads in good nick is a no-brainer for your HSV or Holden. Worn pads mean longer stopping distances, and nobody wants that, especially when you're giving it a nudge. RDA pads are a decent choice, but we've got a whole range to suit your budget and driving style.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you even think about touching those brakes, safety first, eh?
• Safety Glasses: No one wants brake dust in their peepers. Grab some Safety Glasses to keep your vision clear.
• Nitrile Gloves: Brake dust and grease are minging. Keep your mitts clean with some Nitrile Gloves.
• Brake Cleaner: Blast away all that carbon dust and grime before you start fiddling. Brake Cleaner is your best mate here.
• Caliper Grease: A little dab of anti-seize caliper grease will keep things moving smoothly.
Fitment Notes
Double-check those pads fit your specific HSV or Holden model and caliper type. Some models are a bit fussy. And remember, always do both sides at once for even braking.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
