Description

Brake Pad Replacement: A Kiwi DIY Guide with RDA
> Brake pads are the unsung heroes of your car's braking system. They wear down over time, especially if you're doing lots of city driving in your Peugeot 308 SW or VW Polo. Ignoring worn pads can lead to dodgy braking and put you at risk.

Spotting the Warning Signs
• Squealing like a pig when you hit the brakes.
• Your car takes longer to stop - that's never a good sign.
• That pesky brake pad warning light is glaring at you from the dash.
• Visually, the pads look thinner than a cafe lunch.
• Uneven wear? Could point to issues with your calipers.

WOF Woes?
Worn brake pads are a guaranteed way to fail your WOF here in NZ. They've gotta be thick enough to do the job properly and keep you safe.

DIY or Get a Pro?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 1-2 hours
Tools You'll Need: Jack, wrench set, socket set, brake cleaner, C-clamp or brake spreader tool.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, mate, safety first! Grab some safety glasses to keep the brake dust out of your eyes. Brake dust is nasty stuff, so a good pair of nitrile gloves are a no-brainer. And don't even think about skipping the Brake Cleaner – give those rotors a good blast to get rid of all the carbon buildup. Lastly, use a dab of anti-seize [caliper grease] to prevent sticking.
Important: Never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack! Use proper jack stands – your life is worth more than saving a few minutes.

Expert Recommendation
Replacing your brake pads is a no-brainer for safe driving. Worn pads mean longer stopping distances and a higher risk of an accident. Always here to help work out exactly what you need. Make sure you head over to Bob's Shop for a chat!

Fitment Notes
Double-check these pads fit your exact model, year, and brake setup. Some Audi A4s have different pad requirements depending on the engine and trim. Always compare the old pads with the new ones before you start wrenching. If you've got a Peugeot 208 GTi and like to give it a bit of stick, consider high-performance pads for extra stopping power.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
