Description

Brake Pad Replacement: The Kiwi DIY Guide
> Your brake pads are what stop you, turning all that forward motion into heat when they squeeze against the rotors. They wear out over time, especially in older European cars that get a good run and proper servicing.
Spotting the Warning Signs
• Squealing like a stuck pig or a nasty grinding noise when you hit the brakes.
• Brakes feeling a bit soft or not biting like they used to.
• Taking longer to pull up than you remember.
• Pads looking thin or worn right down when you peek through the wheel.
• That annoying brake pad warning light glaring at you from the dash.
WOF Woes?
Dodgy brake pads are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. They gotta be thick enough to do the job and keep you safe on the road.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, mate, safety first! Never, ever get under a car that's only held up by a jack – use proper stands. Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean from all that brake dust, and chuck on some Safety Glasses to keep the muck out of your eyes. Give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of the carbon dust, and don't forget a dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots to keep things moving smoothly next time you're in there.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
