Brake Pad Replacement Guide — Featuring RDA Quality
> Brake pads are what stops your Mercedes-Benz, turning all that kinetic energy into heat when you hit the anchors. Problem is, they wear down over time, and that means less stopping power. Especially important here in NZ, where you might be cruising city streets one minute and tackling tough conditions on a long drive the next.
Symptoms That Led You Here
• Squealing or grinding when you brake? Sounds like a rusty gate?
• Taking longer than usual to pull up?
• Brake pedal feeling a bit soft or spongy?
• Feeling vibrations in the steering wheel or pedal when braking?
• Pads looking a bit thin? (Less than 3mm is a worry).
Will it pass WOF?
No way, mate. Worn-out brake pads are an instant fail for your Warrant of Fitness (WOF). You need good, thick pads to pass the brake test. No arguments there!

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Alright, before you get cracking on those brakes, a bit of prep is a no-brainer. Safety first, always!
• Safety Glasses: Don't want any brake dust or debris flying into your eyes. Safety Glasses are cheap as chips and worth every cent.
• Nitrile Gloves: Brake dust is messy and not great for your skin. Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean.
• Brake Cleaner: Blast away all that built-up brake dust and grime. Makes the job much cleaner and easier. You can find Brake Cleaner here.
• Caliper Grease: A little dab of anti-seize caliper grease will keep things moving smoothly and prevent annoying squeals. Stops everything seizing up.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
