Peugeot 308 Brake Pad Replacement: A Kiwi DIY Guide
> Brake pads are what stop your Peugeot 308, turning all that forward motion into heat when you hit the brakes. They wear down over time, especially if you're always in stop-start traffic. Time for a change? Let's get into it.
Symptoms You Might Be Noticing
• Brakes are squealing like a rusty gate?
• Brake pedal feels soft, or the car takes longer to stop.
• Steering wheel wobbles when you brake.
• That pesky brake warning light is on.
• Pads look thinner than a slice of Kiwi feijoa through the wheel spokes.
WOF Woes?
Worn brake pads are a guaranteed WOF failure. No inspector will pass your Peugeot 308 if the brakes aren't up to scratch. Stopping power is non-negotiable for a Warrant of Fitness in New Zealand.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Eh?: Never, ever get under your 308 supported only by a jack! Use proper axle stands. Safety glasses are a no-brainer to keep brake dust out of your eyes.
• Keep It Clean: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Give your calipers a good blast with Brake Cleaner before you start pulling things apart. It'll make the job much cleaner and safer.
• Glove Up!: Protect your hands with some heavy-duty Nitrile Gloves. Brake cleaner and old brake fluid aren't kind to your skin.
• A Little Lube Goes a Long Way: Use a dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper pins and the back of the brake pads to prevent squealing and ensure smooth operation.
Expert Recommendation
Brakes are the most important thing on your Peugeot 308, especially when you've got precious cargo on board. Don't risk it with worn pads. Replacing them as soon as they're looking thin will save you money on rotors down the line. Give Bob a yell at CARFIX, and he'll sort you out with the right pads for your 308. 🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
