Description

Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — The RDA Way
> Brake pads? They're the unsung heroes of your braking system, slowly sacrificing themselves every time you hit the anchors. If you're rocking a BMW, keeping those pads in tip-top shape is a no-brainer for keeping your stopping power sharp, especially with the tough conditions we put our cars through here in NZ.

Tell-tale Signs You've Landed Here
• Brakes sound like a flock of seagulls or a coffee grinder?
• Braking feels... vague? Like stepping on a sponge?
• Your steering wheel's doing the Macarena when you brake?
• Pads are looking thinner than a cafe lunch special (less than 3mm left)?
• Dashboard's lit up like a Christmas tree with brake warnings?

WOF Worthy?
Nope. Worn-out brake pads are a guaranteed WOF fail here in Kiwi-land. Not enough meat on those pads, or uneven wear? Instant rejection.

DIY or Hand It Over?
Difficulty: 6/10 (A Decent Challenge)
Time Needed: An afternoon, roughly 1-2 hours per axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack, stands (never skip these!), lug wrench, G-clamp or piston compressor tool, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner spray, wire brush, maybe some caliper pin grease.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you even think about cracking a bolt, grab these essentials:
• Safety First, Mates! Get yourself some Safety Glasses to keep that brake dust out of your peepers. And a good set of Nitrile Gloves will keep your hands clean from brake grime.
• Brake Cleaner is Your Friend: Seriously, blast away all that nasty carbon dust with a can of Brake Cleaner. Your lungs (and your brakes) will thank you.
• Lube Those Pins: A little dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the guide pins ensures everything moves smoothly. No one likes a sticky caliper.

Bob's Two Cents
Here's the yarn: I always say, don't wait 'til the last minute with your brakes, especially on a precision machine like a BMW. Pop into Bob's Shop, and we'll sort you out with the perfect bits for your Beemer.

Fitment Notes
These pads are spot-on for a heap of BMW 1, 2, 3, and 4 Series models – the 125i, M4 Competition, 340i, 420d, 428i, 320d, 435i, 330d, 318d, and M235i. Double-check the part number against your car's specs, especially if you've got a high-performance model; they sometimes have different brake setups.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
