Subaru Brake Pad Replacement — With RDA
> Your Subaru's brake pads are what bring you to a stop! Over time, these wear down, especially if you're giving it a bit of stick in an Impreza WRX or Legacy GT. Keep an ear out for squealing – it could save you from a nasty surprise (and a WOF failure!).
Spotting the Warning Signs
• Squealing like a piglet when you hit the brakes.
• Your stopping distance is getting a bit... optimistic.
• That pesky brake pad light is glaring at you from the dash.
• Visually, the pads look thinner than a cafe lunch sandwich.
• Feeling a judder through the pedal when you brake.
WOF Woes?
Dodgy brake pads are a dead cert way to fail a WOF here in NZ. They need enough meat on them to pull you up safely.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, mate, safety first! Never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack – axle stands are your best friends here. Grab some safety glasses to keep the brake dust out of your eyes, and a pair of nitrile gloves will save your hands from getting covered in grime. Give those brake components a good blast with some Brake Cleaner to get rid of brake dust and muck. A little smear of anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper pins won't hurt either, keeping everything moving freely.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
