D.I.Y. Disc Brake Rotor Replacement for Your BMW
> Your BMW 5 Series relies on its disc brake rotors to bring you to a halt safely. These rotors provide the crucial friction surface for the brake pads. Over time, especially with tough conditions like lots of city driving, these rotors can wear down, warp, or even crack.
Spotting the Warning Signs
• Brake pedal feels like it's vibrating
• Squealing or grinding when you hit the brakes
• Taking longer to stop than usual
• Seeing cracks or deep grooves on the rotor
• Your brake pads are wearing unevenly
WOF Woes?
Dodgy brake rotors are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in New Zealand. To pass, your rotors need to be above the minimum thickness and free from cracks or major wear.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you dive in, mate, safety first! Always use axle stands when lifting your car – never trust a jack alone. Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean and a pair of Safety Glasses to protect your peepers from brake dust. While you're at it, a can of Brake Cleaner will make quick work of blasting away brake dust and grime. And don't forget a dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper bolts to keep everything moving smoothly.
Bob's Two Cents
Don't muck around with worn brake rotors – they're a safety risk. Replacing them keeps your BMW stopping properly and stops other brake bits from wearing out too fast. Give Bob @ CARFIX a shout, and he'll sort you out with the right parts for your BMW. Swing by Bob's Shop for a yarn!
Fitment Notes
Double-check you've got the right rotor size for your exact BMW 5 Series model and year. Rotor sizes can vary even within the same model range.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
