Description

Swapping Out Your BMW's Brake Rotors — With RDA
> Your BMW's disc brake rotors are key for decent braking. They wear down over time from heat, friction, and road grit, especially with the way you drive your BMW 550i or 650i.
Spotting the Trouble Signs
• Brakes squealing or grinding like crazy?
• Brake pedal vibrating when you hit the anchors?
• Taking longer to stop than usual?
• Rotors looking rough with scoring, cracks, or rust?
Will it pass WOF?
Dodgy brake rotors are a quick way to fail a WOF here in New Zealand. Make sure your rotors are thick enough and not cracked or worn out to get that pass sticker.
DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10
Time Needed: 2-3 hours per axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, rotor removal tool (if needed)
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking on those brakes, let's make sure you're all set. Safety first, always!
• Safety Glasses: Protect your peepers from flying brake dust and debris. Trust me, you don't want that stuff in your eyes!
• Nitrile Gloves: Keep those hands clean and grease-free. Brake dust isn't exactly a cafe lunch.
• Brake Cleaner: Blast away all that nasty carbon dust and grime from the rotors and calipers. Makes the job much cleaner and ensures proper brake function.
• Anti-Seize Caliper Grease: A thin smear on the caliper slide pins keeps everything moving freely and prevents those annoying squeals. Don't go overboard, though!

Expert Recommendation
Worn brake rotors mean your BMW won't stop like it should. Replacing them keeps your braking sharp and responsive. RDA rotors are a good pick, but we've got others. Bob @ CARFIX can help you find the right bits for your BMW. Pop into Bob's Shop for a yarn!
Fitment Notes
Double-check these rotors fit your specific BMW 550i, 650i, or 535d model and brake setup. Check the rotor size before you start.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
