Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — With RDA
> Your Mitsubishi's disc brake rotors are critical for stopping power. They can wear down, warp from heat, or rust up, especially tough conditions on performance cars like the Lancer EVO or even the family-friendly Magna and Diamante. If you're hearing noises or feeling vibrations, it's time to take a look.
Spotting the Warning Signs
• Squealing like stuck pigs or a nasty grinding when you hit the brakes
• A judder or pulsing feeling through the brake pedal
• Your stopping distances are getting a bit scary
• You can see scoring, cracks, or rust eating away at the rotor surface
Will it pass WOF?
Dodgy brake rotors are a dead cert for a WOF failure here in NZ. They need to be above minimum thickness and free from cracks or major damage to pass the test.
DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 1-2 hours per rotor
Tools Required: Jack and stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and maybe a brake caliper tool.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking, mate, safety first! Never get under a car supported only by a jack. Use proper stands. Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean from all that brake dust and grease, and chuck on some Safety Glasses to keep the crud out of your eyes. Give your new rotors and brake calipers a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of any manufacturing oils. And don't forget a dab of anti-seize on the caliper bolts to stop them seizing up next time you're in there.
Expert Recommendation
Replacing those brake rotors is essential for keeping your stopping power tip-top, especially on machines like the Lancer EVO and the bigger Magna/Diamante sedans. Bob @ CARFIX is always ready to help you find the right part for your Mitsubishi. Head over to Bob's Shop for a yarn!
Fitment Notes
Make sure you get the rotor size and type spot-on for your specific Mitsubishi model and year. Some models might have different rotor sizes depending on the trim level or factory options.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
