Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — The RDA Way
> Disc brake rotors are dead important for your BMW's stoppers. They get worn down over time thanks to friction and heat, meaning you don't pull up like you used to, especially if you drive it hard like a proper Kiwi.
Symptoms That Led You Here
• Squealing like a stuck pig when you brake
• Feels like your pedal's got a pulse
• Takes longer to pull up than a cafe lunch
• Can see scoring or damage on the rotor
• Pads are wearing unevenly – that's not ideal
Will it pass WOF?
Worn or rooted brake rotors are a quick way to fail a WOF here in NZ. They gotta be within the thickness limits and not too badly damaged to pass.
DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 2-3 hours per axle

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Alright, before you get stuck in, mate, a quick yarn about safety and getting the job done properly. Brakes are no joke, so let's do this right:
• Safety First, Eh? Never, ever get under a car that's only held up by a jack. Get yourself some proper jack stands – they're cheap insurance against a nasty accident.
• Cleanliness is Next to...Stopping-ness? Brake dust is a bugger. Grab a can of Brake Cleaner to blast that black crud away. Keeps everything working sweet and stops the squeals.
• Protect Your Mitts: Those rotors can be rough on the hands, and brake cleaner isn't exactly a hand lotion. A pair of Nitrile Gloves will keep your skin clean and protected.
• Don't Seize the Day (or the Caliper): A little dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will stop things from seizing up later. Worth its weight in gold, that stuff.
Expert Recommendation
Worn brake rotors mean your BMW ain't stoppin' like it should. Slapping some new ones on makes sure your brakes are spot-on and you're safe as houses. RDA rotors are a good choice, but CARFIX has a bunch of others. Bob @ CARFIX is always here to help you work out exactly what part you need for your BMW. Fitment Notes
Double-check these bad boys fit your specific BMW model and year. Some have different rotor sizes or need special tools. Get the dimensions right before you start, especially with all the different 5 and 6 Series models.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
