Description

Swapping Out Your Subaru Brake Pads — With TRW
> Brake pads are the unsung heroes in your Subaru's stopping team, quietly wearing down as they rub against the rotors. For the Legacy and Impreza, keeping these pads in good nick means safe motoring, especially with our ever-changing Kiwi roads.

Spotting the Warning Signs
• Squealing like a pig when you hit the brakes.
• Taking longer to stop, or the pedal feels soft.
• Feeling judders through the steering wheel or pedal.
• Pads looking skinny (less than 3mm).
• That pesky brake light's on!

WOF Woes?
Worn pads are a guaranteed WOF fail. They check pad thickness to make sure your brakes are up to scratch for Kiwi roads.

DIY or Get a Pro?
Difficulty: 6/10 (A decent weekend job)
Time Needed: An afternoon per axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack, stands, wheel brace, G-clamp or piston tool, spanners, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and a wire brush.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack. Use proper stands – your life's worth it!
• Cleanliness Counts: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Use plenty of Brake Cleaner to blast it away. Wear safety glasses to keep the dust out of your peepers.
• Glove Up: Keep your hands clean with some heavy-duty Nitrile Gloves. Brake cleaner and brake dust are no fun on the skin.
• Grease is Good: A dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will keep things moving smoothly and prevent annoying squeals.

Bob's Two Cents
I reckon you should swap out those pads the moment they show signs of wear. TRW GDB989DTs are a bloody good choice for your Legacy or Impreza. They're known for being reliable and consistent. Swing by Bob's Shop for a yarn – I'll help you find the right bits for your Subaru. Chur!

Fitment Notes
These TRW pads are made for a bunch of Legacy and Impreza models from '89 to 2000, including the Outback. Double-check your year and model to be sure, as there can be differences even within the same range.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
