Description

VW Brake Pad Change-Out: TRW Edition
> Brake pads? They're the bits that clamp onto your brake rotors, turning forward motion into 'stop-that-ute' motion. On a heavyweight like your VW Multivan, Transporter, or Touareg, they cop a hiding with heat and pressure, so they wear down. Time for new ones!
Uh Oh... Signs You Need New Pads
• Brakes are squealing like a piglet, grinding, or making scary metal noises.
• Braking feels weak as, or the pedal's gone all soft and spongy.
• The steering wheel's shaking like Elvis when you brake.
• You're taking ages to stop - longer than a cafe lunch queue.
• Pads look thinner than a Kiwi saver biscuit (less than 3mm).
WOF Time? No Chance!
Worn brake pads are a WOF fail, no question. Brakes need to be spot-on for safety, so get them sorted.
DIY or Get a Pro?
Skill Level: 6/10 (A Decent Challenge)
Time Needed: 1-2 hours per axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands (never skip the stands!), wheel wrench, G-clamp or caliper tool, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner spray, wire brush, and maybe a brake bleeder if you crack open the lines.
Bob's Two Cents
Here at CARFIX, we know braking is key, especially in your VW bus or SUV. Skimping on brake pads is a false economy – worn pads can wreck your rotors, costing you way more in the long run. Get them changed ASAP when they're looking thin or acting up.

TRW pads are a solid choice – known for good stopping power and lasting well, ideal for VW's that work hard. But hey, we've got options galore! Pop into Bob's Shop or give us a bell – we'll get you sorted with the right pads for your Volkswagen.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under a vehicle supported *only* by a jack. Use proper jack stands. Safety glasses are a no-brainer to keep brake dust out of your eyes.
• Cleanliness is King: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Use plenty of Brake Cleaner to blast it away from the caliper and rotor. A wire brush helps too.
• Protect Your Investment: A smear of anti-seize grease on the caliper slide pins keeps everything moving smoothly. Don't get it on the pads or rotors!
• Hand Protection: Wear Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean and away from brake fluids and grime.
Fitment Notes
These pads fit various VW Multivan, Transporter, and Touareg models from '03-'15, including TDI, VR6, and V6 versions. Double-check your exact year, model, and engine – brake setups can be different. Bob's waiting to help you out!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
