Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — DBA Featured
> Disc brake rotors are the unsung heroes of your Ford Fairmont or Falcon's braking. They cop a beating, wearing down from friction, warping from heat, or just plain rusting away. This means dodgy braking and less safety, especially if you give it a hard time daily or love putting your foot down.
Tell-tale Signs It's Time for New Rotors
• Screeching or a nasty grinding when you hit the brakes
• The whole car shakes, or the brake pedal pulses
• Takes way longer to stop than it used to
• Rotors look scored, cracked, or covered in rust
• Your brake pads are wearing unevenly
WOF Woes?
Dodgy disc brake rotors are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. They gotta be above the minimum thickness and free from cracks to pass the test.

Difficulty: 6/10
Time Needed: About 1.5 - 2 hours per axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands (never get under a car supported only by a jack!), lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and maybe a brake caliper tool.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Mates!: Chuck on some safety glasses to keep the brake dust out of your peepers, and grab some nitrile gloves to keep your hands clean. Brake dust is nasty stuff!
• Cleanliness is Key: Give those new rotors a good spray down with Brake Cleaner before you fit them. Gets rid of any manufacturing gunk.
• Don't Forget the Grease: A wee dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper bolts will make life easier next time you're in there. Trust me, you'll thank yourself later.
Bob's Two Cents
Worn rotors are a no-brainer when it comes to safety. Get them sorted to keep your Falcon or Fairmont stopping like it should and avoid wrecking other bits. Pop into Bob's Shop, and we'll sort you out with the right bits for your Ford!
Fitment Notes
Double-check those new rotors fit your exact Ford model, year, and brake setup. Rotor sizes and mounting patterns can vary, especially across different Falcon and Fairmont models, including the XR6/XR8.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
