Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — Featuring DBA
> Your BMW X5 or X6's brake rotors are key to stopping safely, working with the brake pads. They wear down over time due to friction and heat, especially with frequent stops or the weight of a big SUV.

Spotting the Trouble Signs
• Brake pedal feels like it's pulsing or vibrating
• Brakes are squealing or grinding when you hit the pedal
• Taking longer to stop than usual
• Seeing grooves or cracks on the rotor surface
• Brake pads wearing unevenly

WOF Worries?
Worn brake rotors are a common cause for failing your WOF here in NZ. Rotors need to be above the minimum thickness and without cracks or deep scores to pass the test.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you dive in, mate, a few things to keep in mind to make the job smooth and safe:
• Safety First, Eh? Never, ever get under a car that's only supported by a jack. Use proper axle stands – your life's worth it! And chuck on some Safety Glasses to keep the brake dust out of your peepers.
• Keep it Clean: Brakes create a hell of a mess. Have some Nitrile Gloves handy to keep your hands clean. Trust me, you don't want that brake dust ingrained in your skin.
• Blast that Brake Dust: Give those new rotors a good spray with Brake Cleaner before you fit them. Gets rid of any manufacturing gunk and helps the pads bed in nicely.
• Don't Forget the Grease: A wee dab of anti-seize [Caliper Grease] on the caliper bolts and the back of the brake pads will keep things quiet and prevent future headaches.

Fitment Notes
Make sure the new rotors are the right fit for your specific BMW X5 or X6 model and year. Some models might have different rotor sizes. Always replace rotors in pairs (both front or both rear) to keep your braking balanced.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
