Known issues

Rust is prevalent, especially in the floorpan, sills, and around the suspension mounting points. The fuel injection system (particularly the early Bosch D-Jetronic) can be problematic. Engine oil leaks are common. Suspension components, especially the rear suspension, can wear out over time.

WOF tips

Pay particular attention to rust in structural areas. Check the condition of the braking system, including the brake lines and hoses. Inspect the fuel injection system for leaks and proper operation. Steering and suspension components should be checked for excessive play.

About the Volkswagen 411 EA,W

The 411/412 featured a larger air-cooled engine, typically a 1.7 or 1.8-liter unit, providing more power than the Beetle. Handling is adequate, but not particularly sporty. Interior space is more generous than the Beetle. Rust is a major concern for these cars due to their age and construction.
