Citroen Dyane 6 (1972–1980)

The Citroen Dyane, produced from 1967 to 1983, offered a unique and practical motoring experience that appealed to a niche segment of the New Zealand market. Sharing many components with the iconic 2CV, the Dyane provided a slightly more modern and refined alternative, whilst retaining the core Citroen values of innovation and practicality.

Known issues

Rust is a concern, particularly in the chassis, floors, and around the suspension mounting points. Engine wear, oil leaks, and carburetor issues are relatively common in older examples. The complicated suspension can require specialist expertise. Because of low sales volume, finding replacement parts can be a challenge.

WOF tips

Rust is the main priority when inspecting a Dyane for a WOF. Suspension components need to be in good condition. Lighting must be functional and meet legal requirements. Additionally, check the condition of the brakes.

About the Citroen Dyane 6

The Dyane was powered by a small-capacity, air-cooled two-cylinder engine, known for its simplicity and economy. The suspension system, interconnected between the front and rear wheels, delivered a remarkably smooth ride over rough surfaces. The soft and compliant suspension provided good wheel articulation, making them surprisingly useful on unsealed roads. The Dyane has a small footprint, but has a lot of charm.
