Citroen Ami 6 (1963–1968)

The Citroën Ami, with its distinctive styling and focus on fuel economy, held a unique place in the automotive landscape. Produced from 1961 to 1978, it was designed to bridge the gap between the utilitarian 2CV and the larger DS/ID models. While not as ubiquitous as some other classics in New Zealand, the Ami's charm and quirkiness appeal to those seeking something different.

Known issues

Rust is a significant concern for the Citroën Ami from this era, particularly in the floor, sills, and around the wheel arches. The air-cooled engine can be sensitive to overheating if not correctly maintained. The suspension, with its interconnected system, can be complex to repair. Electrical systems are also prone to problems from age.

WOF tips

When preparing a Citroen Ami for a WoF, prioritize rust repairs. Brakes should work properly and be adjusted carefully for any imbalances. Ensure the lights are all functional. The interconnected suspension should be assessed for leaks and proper operation and the steering and handling should be checked by a mechanic
