Spark Plug Replacement Guide — Featuring NGK
> Spark plugs are the unsung heroes of your Holden's engine, chucking out the spark that gets the party started in each cylinder. Over time, they get worn down from all the heat and pressure, leading to a rough ride, misfires, and a grumpy engine that doesn't want to start – especially in those classic Holdens like the H Series, Statesman, and Monaro. If your old girl is struggling, it might be time for a change.
Symptoms That Led You Here
• Engine's misfiring, making it idle rough and losing power.
• Engine's being a pain to start, especially when it's cold.
• Fuel economy's gone down the gurgler.
• Emissions have gone up.
• Spark plug electrodes look knackered or damaged.
Will it pass WOF?
Worn or dodgy spark plugs are a surefire way to fail a Warrant of Fitness (WOF) here in NZ, thanks to those pesky emissions and engine misfires.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking on those spark plugs, let's make sure you're all set for a safe and tidy job. No one wants to be picking bits of carbon out of their skin for a week!
• Safety First, Mates! Those engines get hot! Make sure the engine is stone cold before you even think about touching those plugs. A decent pair of Nitrile Gloves will keep your hands clean from oil and grime. And don't forget your safety glasses, nobody wants grit in their eyes.
• Spark Plug Anti-Seize: A tiny dab of anti-seize on the threads is a no-brainer. It'll stop the new plugs from welding themselves in place. Makes life easier next time around.
• Keep it Clean: Before you pull the old plugs, give the area around them a good blast with some Brake Cleaner. Stops any crud from falling into the cylinders when the plugs are out. While you're at it, a good blast of brake cleaner on your discs never goes amiss!
Expert Recommendation
Swapping out your spark plugs is key to keeping your classic Holden purring like a kitten. Old plugs can really mess with your engine's performance and fuel use. Bob @ CARFIX is always here to help you find the perfect part for your Holden. Come see Bob in the shop for a yarn!
Fitment Notes
Make sure the spark plug gap is spot-on for your Holden's specs. A little anti-seize on the threads stops them seizing up later. And don't go mad tightening them, you don't want to strip the threads in the cylinder head.
Bob's the word!
