Description

Swapping Out Your Mazda's Brake Pads — Starring RDA
> Brake pads are what stop your Mazda, and they wear out over time, especially if you give it a bit of stick on the open road. Models like the RX-7 and Mazda 6 really need good brakes, so don't muck around with worn pads.
Warning Signs You've Found This Page
• Brakes are squealing like a stuck pig.
• Braking feels a bit soft or slow.
• Takes longer to pull up at the lights.
• Steering wheel or brake pedal shudders when you brake.
• Pads look thin or damaged when you sneak a peek.
Will it pass WOF?
Worn brake pads are a quick way to fail your WOF. Your brake pads need enough meat on them to stop safely. Keep an eye on those pads to be sure.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under a car that's only held up by a jack. Use proper jack stands – it's a no-brainer.
• Keep it Clean: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Use plenty of Brake Cleaner to blast away the muck. It'll help everything go back together smoothly.
• Glove Up: Protect your hands with a decent set of Nitrile Gloves. Keeps the grease and grime off your skin.
• Lube is Your Friend: A dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots will stop things seizing up later. Worth its weight in gold.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
