Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — With RDA
> Brake pads are what slow down your Mercedes-Benz, turning all that forward motion into heat by squeezing against the brake rotors. Over time, they wear down – especially on heavier vehicles like the GL-Class or if you're always hitting the brakes in your E-Class. Replacing them keeps you safe on the road. It's a no-brainer, really.
What Clued You In?
• Brakes squealing or grinding? Sounds like a train pulling into the station?
• Brakes not as sharp as they used to be?
• Taking longer to stop than you'd like?
• Feeling a shudder in the pedal when you brake?
• Pads look thinner than a cafe lunch slice of bread?
Keen for a WOF?
Dodgy brake pads are a quick way to fail a WOF here in New Zealand. They need to be thick enough to do their job properly. Give yours a regular check to make sure they're up to scratch.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you dive in, grab these to make the job safer and cleaner:
• Brake Cleaner: Blast away all that nasty brake dust. Trust me, you don't want to breathe that stuff in.
• Anti-Seize Caliper Grease: A tiny dab prevents squeaks and keeps things moving smoothly. A little goes a long way.
• Safety Glasses: Protect your peepers from flying grit and brake dust. Safety first, always!
• Nitrile Gloves: Keep your hands clean and avoid getting brake dust and grease under your fingernails. No one likes dirty hands!
Expert's Two Cents
Keeping your brake pads in good nick is vital for your Mercedes-Benz. Worn pads mean longer stopping distances and a higher chance of an accident. RDA pads are a decent choice, but we stock a heap of brands at CARFIX. Give Bob a yell at CARFIX, and he'll sort you out with the right part for your Mercedes-Benz. Pop into Bob's Shop for a yarn!
Fitment Tips
Double-check these pads fit your exact Mercedes-Benz model and year. Some models have different brake setups. Make sure they're right for vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz GLE 500 (2015-2018) and M-Class ML 63 AMG (2011-2015).

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
