Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — Featuring RDA
> Brake pads are like the tread on your tyres - they wear down over time, and that means less stopping power. For bigger rigs like the Holden Captiva and Hyundai Terracan, keeping those brakes in top nick is a no-brainer.
Spotting the Warning Signs
• Hearing squeals or a gnarly grinding when you hit the brakes.
• Brakes feeling a bit soft or slow to respond.
• Taking longer to pull up than usual.
• Feeling a wobble through the steering wheel or brake pedal.
• Actually seeing the pads looking thin or damaged.
Will it pass WOF?
Worn brake pads are a surefire way to fail a WOF here in NZ. They need to be thick enough to do the job properly. Give them a regular check to keep yourself legal and safe.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First: Never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack. Use proper jack stands – your life's worth it!
• Cleanliness Counts: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Use Brake Cleaner to blast it away from the brake assembly before you start pulling things apart. Keeps the workspace clean and the lungs happy.
• Hand Protection: Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep your hands clean and protected from brake dust and chemicals.
• Anti-Seize is Your Mate: A little dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper bolts will make life much easier next time you're in there. Don't go overboard, just a light smear.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
