Description

Hyundai Elantra Brake Pad Replacement — With RDA Pads
> Brake pads are what stop your Hyundai Elantra, turning all that go-power into heat by squeezing against the rotors. Over time, they wear down, especially if you do lots of city driving with plenty of stopping and starting. That's tough conditions for brake pads!

Spotting the Warning Signs
• Squealing like a pig or grinding noises when you hit the brakes.
• Your Elantra takes longer to stop, which is never a good feeling.
• The brake pad warning light is glaring at you from the dash.
• You can see the pads are looking thin and sad.
• One pad is wearing down faster than the others – could be a sticky caliper.

WOF Woes?
Worn brake pads are a surefire way to fail your WOF in New Zealand. They need enough meat on them to pull you up safely. Give them a regular check to avoid any nasty surprises at WOF time.

DIY or Get a Pro?
Difficulty: 6/10
Time Needed: Give yourself 1.5 - 2 hours.
Essential Tools: Jack, axle stands (never skip these!), wrench set, socket set, brake cleaner, and a brake piston rewind tool or C-clamp.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Alright, before you get stuck in, let's make sure you're sorted. Brakes are safety-critical, so no cutting corners!
• Safety First, Mate: Never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack. Axle stands are non-negotiable. Safety glasses are a good idea too, to keep brake dust out of your peepers.
• Keep it Clean: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Grab some Brake Cleaner to blast it away from the brake parts. Trust me, you don't want to breathe that stuff in.
• Glove Up: Protect your hands with some heavy-duty Nitrile Gloves. Brake cleaner and brake fluid aren't kind to your skin.
• Lube is Your Friend: A smear of anti-seize grease on the caliper pins will keep everything moving smoothly and prevent annoying squeals. Copper grease works a treat.

Bob's Recommendation
Don't muck around with worn brake pads – it's just not worth the risk. Get them sorted ASAP to keep your Hyundai Elantra stopping safely. RDA pads are a reliable choice, but we've got plenty of other options at CARFIX. If you're not sure what you need, pop into Bob's Shop for a yarn. I'm always happy to help you find the right parts for your Elantra!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
