Description

Brake Pad Replacement: Your Guide to Stopping Safely — Featuring RDA
> Brake pads, eh? They're what stops your pride and joy, so keeping them in tip-top shape is a no-brainer. Especially on classics like the BMW 525 and Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT, where you wanna keep that original feel (and stopping power!).

Reckon Your Pads Need Swapping? Here's What to Look For:
• Brakes screeches like a banshee when you hit the pedal?
• Taking longer to pull up at the lights?
• Pedal feels a bit soft or spongy?
• Can see they're lookin' a bit thin or knackered?
• That pesky brake warning light's on the dash?

Will it pass WOF?
Worn brake pads are a quick way to fail your WOF here in NZ. Gotta have enough meat on those pads to stop safely. Check the LTSA standards for the minimum thickness – no point getting caught out!

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Alright, before you get stuck in, let's make sure you're set up for success. Safety first, always!
• Safety Glasses: Brake dust and grime can be a real pain in the eyes. Protect those peepers!
• Nitrile Gloves: Keep your hands clean and away from brake fluid. No one wants that mess!
• Brake Cleaner: Blast away all that carbon dust and residue from the brake components. Makes the job cleaner and easier. Brake Cleaner is your friend here.
• Caliper Grease: A little dab of anti-seize caliper grease will keep everything moving smoothly and prevent annoying squeals. Don't skip this step!

Important Note: Never, ever get under a car that's only supported by a jack. Always use proper axle stands. Safety's gotta be your top priority, mate.

Expert Recommendation
Swapping out those brake pads is key for keeping your braking sharp. Worn pads mean longer stopping distances – not ideal, especially in older cars. RDA pads are a good choice, but we've got plenty of others at CARFIX. Bob @ CARFIX is always here to point you in the right direction. Swing by Bob's Shop for a yarn!

Fitment Notes
Double-check those pads fit your specific model and caliper type. Some models can be a bit different. And always replace pads in pairs – both sides of the axle – to keep the braking even.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
