Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — With RDA
> Your Toyota Hilux or Land Cruiser's brake pads are gonna wear down over time, especially if you're hitting those dusty metal tracks or hauling gear. Keeping on top of this is a no-brainer for safety. Worn pads mean longer stopping distances, and nobody wants that!
Spotting the Signs
• Hear a squeal or grind when you hit the brakes?
• Brakes feeling a bit soft or not pulling up as quick as they used to?
• Pedal feels spongy?
• Can see the pads are looking thin or damaged?
• Warning light's popped up on the dash?
WOF Worries?
Worn brake pads are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. Land Transport NZ has clear rules on pad thickness, so make sure you're up to scratch.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Alright, before you get stuck in, a bit of prep is key. Safety first, always! Never get under a vehicle supported only by a jack – use proper stands. Grab some safety glasses to keep the crud out of your eyes, and a pair of nitrile gloves will save your hands from getting covered in brake dust. Speaking of which, brake dust is nasty stuff, so give everything a good blast with some brake cleaner. And don't forget a smear of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots to keep things moving smoothly. Sorted?
Bob's Two Cents
Keeping your brake pads in good nick is vital, especially with the demands we put on our Hiluxes and Land Cruisers here in NZ. RDA pads are a solid choice, but CARFIX has a bunch of options to suit your budget and how you drive. Swing by Bob's Shop for a yarn!
Fitment Notes
Double-check these pads fit your exact model and caliper type. There can be sneaky differences. Your service manual is your mate here, or give a mechanic a shout to be sure.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
