Brake Pad Replacement: A Kiwi DIY Guide
> Your MINI's brake pads are what bring ya to a stop, using friction against the rotors. They wear out over time, especially with all that stop-start driving in Auckland or nailing it through the twisties. Swapping them out regularly keeps your braking sweet as and, more importantly, keeps you safe as houses.
Reckon Your Pads Need Replacing? Keep an Ear Out For:
• Squealing like a stuck pig or a grinding noise when you hit the brakes
• Brakes feeling a bit soft or not pulling you up like they used to
• Taking longer to stop than you're happy with
• That pesky brake warning light glaring at ya from the dash
• Having a cheeky peek and seeing they're looking pretty thin or buggered
Will it pass WOF?
Worn brake pads are a no-go for a WOF. They gotta have enough meat on 'em to pull you up safely. Give 'em a regular squiz to make sure you're all good.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under a car that's only held up by a jack. Use proper axle stands – your life's worth it!
• Cleanliness is Next to...Well, You Know: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner before you start pulling things apart. It'll keep the dust down and make it easier to see what you're doing.
• Protect Your Hands: Those brake components can be rough on the mitts. A decent set of Nitrile Gloves will keep your hands clean and protected.
• Lube It Up: A smear of anti-seize grease on the caliper bolts and pad contact points will make life easier next time you're in there. Trust me, future you will thank you!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
