Swapping Out Your Brake Pads — Featuring RDA
> Sweet as! Your Mazda Demio, MX-5, Ford Fiesta, or Street KA's brake pads are what help you pull up safely at the lights. They work by squeezing against the rotors. Over time, they wear down, especially if you're giving it heaps on the open road or cruising hard in your MX-5.
Uh Oh, Time for New Pads? Here's What to Look For
• Brakes making a racket? Squealing or grinding sounds are a bad sign.
• Taking longer to stop than usual?
• That pesky brake pad warning light's lit up on the dash.
• Pads look thin or worn when you peek at 'em.
• See uneven wear on the pads themselves.
WOF Worries?
Dodgy brake pads are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. Your pads need enough meat on them to stop you safely. Give 'em a regular check to make sure they're up to scratch.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you start yanking things apart, safety first, eh? Grab some safety glasses to keep the brake dust out of your peepers, and a pair of nitrile gloves to keep your hands clean from that black carbon dust. Speaking of brake dust, give those rotors a good blast with some brake cleaner to get rid of it all before you fit the new pads. And don't forget a little smear of anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper pins to keep things moving smoothly. Most importantly, NEVER get under a car supported only by a jack – use jack stands, or you're asking for trouble!
Bob's Two Cents
Keeping your Mazda Demio, MX-5, Ford Fiesta, or Street KA stopping properly is a no-brainer, eh? If your pads are worn, you're not stopping as well as you should be, and you could end up damaging your rotors. Pop into Bob's Shop for a yarn, and I'll help you sort out exactly what you need for your car.
Fitment Notes
• Make sure you get the right pads for your specific Mazda Demio, MX-5, Ford Fiesta, or Street KA, model and year.
• Always do both sides at once (both fronts or both rears) to keep your braking even.
• If your rotors are looking rough, think about doing them at the same time.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
