SsangYong Brake Pad Change-Out: An RDA How-To
> Your SsangYong Rexton or Stavic's brake pads are what slow you down, so keeping them in tip-top shape is a no-brainer for safety. They wear down over time, and that means less stopping power and potentially knackered rotors. Swapping them out regularly keeps your braking on point, especially important when you're carting the family around in a bigger vehicle.
Tell-tale Signs You're Here
• Brakes are squealing like stuck pigs or grinding like a coffee grinder.
• Your stopping feels a bit average, or you're taking longer to pull up.
• That pesky brake pad warning light is glaring at you from the dash.
• You've had a peek, and the pads look worse for wear (or completely gone!).
• The brake pedal's vibrating like crazy when you hit the anchors.
Will it pass WOF?
Worn brake pads are a guaranteed fail at WOF time here in New Zealand. They need to be thick enough to do their job properly. Keep an eye on them to avoid the dreaded WOF sticker rejection.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Mates!: Never, ever get under a car that's only held up by a jack. Use proper jack stands – your life's worth more than a brake job!
• Blast that Brake Dust!: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Give everything a good spray with Brake Cleaner before you start pulling things apart. Keeps the dust down and helps you see what you're doing.
• Glove Up!: Protect your mitts with some heavy-duty Nitrile Gloves. Brake cleaner and old brake pads aren't exactly kind to the skin.
• Grease is the Word: A little bit of anti-seize caliper grease on the right spots (check a guide!) keeps things moving smoothly and prevents annoying squeals. Trust me, your ears will thank you.
• Eye Protection: Safety glasses are cheap insurance against brake dust and debris flying into your eyes. Don't skip this step!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
