Brake Pad Replacement Guide — Featuring RDA
> Brake pads are the unsung heroes that stop your beast, pressing against the rotors to kill your speed. Fairlanes and Falcons aren't getting any lighter, so tired pads turn into dodgy stopping power and a potential WOF failure.
Symptoms That Led You Here
• Squealing like a stuck pig when you hit the brakes.
• Taking forever and a day to stop.
• The whole car juddering when you brake.
• Brake pedal feeling softer than butter left out in the sun.
• Pads thinner than a cafe lunch receipt (less than 3mm).
Will it pass WOF?
Nah, mate. Worn brake pads are a guaranteed WOF failure. They check pad thickness to make sure you can actually stop safely.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Alright, before you get stuck in, a quick yarn from Bob.
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack. Use proper jack stands – your life's worth more than saving a few minutes.
• Brake Cleaner: Blast away all that nasty brake dust before you start pulling things apart. That stuff's not good for your lungs, and it makes everything slippery. Grab a can of Brake Cleaner to make the job easier.
• Keep the Mitts Clean: Brake dust is a bugger to get off your hands. A decent set of Nitrile Gloves will save you from scrubbing for days.
• Anti-Seize Caliper Grease: A little dab of this stuff on the caliper bolts will make your life easier next time you're in there. Stops things seizing up.
• Eye Protection: Safety glasses are a no-brainer. You don't want brake dust or rust in your eyes.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Brakes get incredibly dirty. Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from stubborn brake dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use a high-quality Brake Cleaner spray to blast away stubborn dust, oil, and road grime from the caliper assembly and new rotors before reassembly.
• Lubrication: Apply a thin smear of high-temperature caliper grease to the pad backing plates and slide pins (keep it off the pad friction material!) to prevent squeals and ensure smooth caliper operation.
