Description

Swapping Out Your Disc Brake Rotors — With RDA
> Disc brake rotors are pretty crucial for good braking. Over time, all that friction from the brake pads wears them down. That means less stopping power, vibrations that'll drive you nuts, and maybe even some safety issues, especially if you're giving it heaps on the open road.

Spotting the Trouble Signs
• Hear any squealing or grinding when you hit the brakes?
• Brake pedal feels like it's vibrating?
• Taking longer to pull up than usual?
• Rotors look scored, cracked, or rusty?
• Brake pads wearing unevenly?

WOF Woes?
Worn brake rotors are a dead cert to fail a WOF here in NZ. They need to be above the minimum thickness and free from cracks to pass the test. No one wants to be gutted with a failed WOF.

Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 2-3 hours per axle
Tools Required: Jack and stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, C-clamp or brake spreader tool.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist

Alright, before you get cracking on those rotors, let's make sure you're sorted for a safe and tidy job, aye?
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under a car that's only held up by a jack. Use proper Jack Stands. Safety glasses are a no-brainer to keep that brake dust out of your eyes.
• Keep it Clean: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Grab some Brake Cleaner to blast it away and keep everything spotless. Plus, a decent pair of Nitrile Gloves will save your hands from getting covered in grime.
• Protect Your Investment: A little Anti-Seize Grease on the caliper bolts will make life easier next time you're in there. Trust me, you'll thank yourself.

Expert Recommendation
Worn brake rotors are a real worry and can make driving your Nissan 200SX, Skyline or Fairlady Z dangerous. Getting them changed keeps your braking tip-top and stops other parts from getting damaged. RDA rotors are a good bet, but CARFIX has plenty of others. Bob @ CARFIX is always ready to lend a hand figuring out what's best for your vehicle. Drop by Bob's Shop for a yarn!

Fitment Notes
Double-check they fit your exact model and year. Some cars need different sized rotors. Always do both sides of the axle at the same time to keep the braking even. And give those brake pads a once-over while you're at it — might as well do them together for the best result.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
