Description

Swapping Out Your Toyota Kluger's Brake Rotors — Featuring RDA
> Those brake rotors are absolutely vital for your Toyota Kluger's ability to pull up safely. Over time, especially with the kind of heavy use SUVs often see, they can wear down, warp, or get scored. This means reduced braking and a WOF headache.
Tell-tale Signs You Need New Rotors
• Squealing or grinding when you hit the brakes
• A vibration or pulsing feeling in the brake pedal
• Longer stopping distances than usual
• Visible scoring, rust, or other damage on the rotor itself
Will it pass WOF?
Worn or damaged brake rotors are a surefire way to fail a WOF here in New Zealand. Your rotors need to be within the minimum thickness and free from major damage to pass the test.
DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10
Estimated Time: 2-3 hours per axle
Tools Required: Jack and stands, wheel wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, rotor removal tool (optional)
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get cracking on those brakes, mate, let's make sure you're sorted with the right safety gear and consumables. Stopping is kinda important.
• Safety First: Never, ever get under a Kluger supported only by a jack. Use proper axle stands. Eye protection is a no-brainer too – grab some Safety Glasses to keep the brake dust out of your peepers.
• Keep it Clean: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Have a can of Brake Cleaner handy to blast away carbon deposits and keep things clean. A clean brake is a happy brake.
• Glove Up: Protect your hands with some heavy-duty Nitrile Gloves. Brake cleaner and old brake components can be tough on the skin.
• Lube it Right: When reassembling, use a dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper bolts and the hub centric ring to prevent future headaches. This'll keep things moving smoothly and prevent corrosion.

• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
