Description

Swapping Out Your BMW's Disc Brake Rotors — The RDA Way
> Your BMW's disc brake rotors are a super important bit of the braking system. They work with the brake pads to slow you down. Over time, rotors wear out from all the friction and heat, especially if you drive it hard or have a heavier SUV like the X5 or X6. Time for a cafe lunch and some wrenching.

What Clued You In?
• Brakes sound like a choir of squealing pigs or a coffee grinder.
• The brake pedal's doing the Macarena, vibrating like crazy.
• Takes longer to pull up than it used to.
• Rotors look like they've been attacked by a grinder, all scored and rusty.
• Brake pads are wearing unevenly – a real WOF headache.

Will it pass WOF?
Worn or rooted disc brake rotors are a dead cert for WOF failures here in NZ. Rotors need to be within the minimum thickness and not cracked or too far gone to pass the test.

DIY or Workshop?

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist

Before you get stuck in, mate, safety first! Never get under a car supported only by a jack – use proper stands. Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep the hands clean, and Safety Glasses to keep the brake dust out of your eyes when you blast everything with Brake Cleaner. A good spray down will get rid of all that nasty carbon dust. When you're reassembling, a dab of anti-seize caliper grease will help keep things smooth and prevent future squeals. It's a no-brainer, really.

Expert Recommendation
Worn-out brake rotors mean your BMW isn't stopping as well as it should, which is never a good thing. Getting them swapped out gives you back that confident feeling, especially when you're pushing it a bit. Bob @ CARFIX is always here to lend a hand and sort you out with the right bits for your BMW. Fitment Notes
Double-check it's the right fit for your specific BMW – year, model, rotor size, thickness, and bolt pattern. Some models have different sizes depending on the trim level and factory options. Get it wrong, and you'll be gutted.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
