Description

Swapping Out Your BMW's Brake Rotors — With RDA
> Your BMW's brake rotors are what the brake pads clamp onto to slow you down. Over time, these rotors can wear unevenly, warp, or even crack, especially if you're giving it heaps on the open road or just doing the daily grind in your 320i or tearing it up in your 135i. Let's get them sorted.

Symptoms You've Got a Rotor Problem
• Your brake pedal's doing the Macarena (pulsating or vibrating)
• Squealing like a stuck pig when you brake
• Taking longer to pull up than a cafe lunch
• Cracks or dings you can see on the rotor itself
• Your brake pads are wearing unevenly – that's a worry

Will it pass WOF?
Worn brake rotors are a surefire way to fail a WOF here in NZ. Make sure those rotors are above the minimum thickness and aren't cracked or excessively worn.

DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10

• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under a car that's only supported by a jack. Use proper axle stands – your life's worth it.
• Blast Away the Grime: Brake cleaner is your best mate here. Give everything a good spray to get rid of brake dust and muck. Brake Cleaner
• Keep it Clean: Those rotors will be covered in brake dust. Use gloves to keep the hands clean. Nitrile Gloves
• Lube is Your Friend: Copper anti-seize grease on the backs of the pads will stop that annoying squeal. Grab some from Bob's shop!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
