Description

Disc Brake Rotor Replacement: Get Your Corvette Pulling Up Like New!
> Your Chevrolet Corvette's disc brake rotors are prime for keeping you safe. They wear down over time due to heat and hard use – especially if you drive it like you stole it! Worn rotors mean less stopping power, and that's never a good place to be on NZ roads.
Recognising the Symptoms
• Squealing when you hit the brakes? Sounds like a farmyard!
• The brake pedal's vibrating like a cellphone?
• Taking longer to stop than you used to?
• Rotors looking scored or rooted?
• Brake pads wearing unevenly? That's a worry.
Will it pass WOF?
Buggered disc brake rotors are a surefire way to fail a WOF here in New Zealand. They need to be within the thickness specs and free from cracks to pass the test. Don't get caught out!
DIY or Workshop?
Difficulty: 6/10 (a solid afternoon job)
Estimated Time: 2-3 hours per axle (allow a cafe lunch break!)
Tools Required: Jack and stands (never skip the stands!), lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, and some brake cleaner. You might need a caliper tool too.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
• Safety First, Mates!: Never, ever get under a car that's only supported by a jack. Use proper axle stands – your life depends on it!
• Cleanliness is Key: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of it before you start pulling things apart. Keeps the hands clean too.
• Protect Your Hands: Grab some heavy-duty Nitrile Gloves to keep the brake dust and grime off your skin.
• Lube It Up: A little dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the appropriate spots will make life easier next time you're in there. Prevents things seizing up.

Expert Recommendation
Worn rotors are a no-brainer when it comes to safety. Replacing them keeps your Chevrolet Corvette stopping as it should. RDA rotors are a fine choice, but we have other options at CARFIX. Fitment Notes
Make sure the new rotors fit your specific Corvette year (1989-1997). The ZR-1 might need special rotors compared to the regular Corvette.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
