Description

Swapping Out Your Chevy C30's Disc Brake Rotors — The RDA Way
> Your Chevrolet C30's brake rotors are what the brake pads clamp onto, turning all that forward motion into a nice, controlled stop. But these rotors take a hammering, especially with the heavy loads these trucks often lug around. Over time, they can wear thin, warp, or even crack.
Spotting the Warning Signs
• Your brake pedal's doing the Macarena (vibrating like crazy).
• The brakes are squealing like stuck pigs.
• It feels like you need a rugby field to stop.
• You can see cracks or deep grooves on the rotor itself.
• Your brake pads are wearing unevenly – that's a dead giveaway.
WOF Woes?
Dodgy brake rotors are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. They need to be above the minimum thickness and free from cracks to pass the test. Don't get caught out!
DIY or Call in the Pros?
Difficulty: 7/10
Time Needed: Give yourself 2-3 hours per axle.
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands (never skip on safety!), wheel wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake caliper tool, brake cleaner, and some penetrating oil for those stubborn bolts.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you dive in, a few things to keep in mind for a smooth and safe job:
• Safety First, Mates! Never, ever get under your C30 when it's supported only by a jack. Use proper axle stands – your life's worth it!
• Brake Dust Be Gone: When you pull the old rotors off, give everything a good blast with Brake Cleaner. That brake dust is nasty stuff, and you don't want to breathe it in.
• Keep Those Hands Clean: Grab a pair of Nitrile Gloves to keep the brake dust and grease off your mitts. Trust me, your partner will thank you!
• Grease is Your Friend: Use a dab of anti-seize Caliper Grease on the caliper bolts and the hub where the rotor sits. It'll make life much easier next time you need to do this job.
• Eye Protection: Get some Safety Glasses to keep the brake dust out of your eyes.
Bob's Two Cents
Replacing those rotors on your Chevy C30 is all about keeping things safe, especially with the kind of loads these trucks handle. The RDA rotor (RDA7717) is a reliable choice, but we've got plenty of other options at CARFIX. Pop into Bob's Shop – I'm always happy to chew the fat and help you find exactly what you need for your C30!
Important Fitment Tip
Double-check that these rotors are the right fit for your specific C30 – brake setups can vary. And remember, always replace rotors in pairs for even braking. You wouldn't want one side stopping harder than the other, would ya?

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
