Description

Toyota Coaster Disc Brake Rotor Replacement — With RDA
> G'day! Your Toyota Coaster's disc brake rotors are dead important for good stopping power. Over time, especially with the heavy use these vans often see, they wear down. That means less braking, and that's never a good idea. Time for a swap, eh?
Spotting the Trouble Signs:
• Brakes screeches or grinds like a rusty gate.
• Steering wheel shimmies when you brake.
• Takes way too long to pull up at the lights.
• Rotors look like they've been through a war zone.
• Brake pads wearing unevenly – dodgy!
WOF Worries?
Dodgy rotors are a surefire way to fail your WOF here in NZ. Make sure they're thick enough and not too beat up, or you'll be back for a re-check.
DIY or Get a Pro?
Difficulty: 6/10 – A bit of a mission, but doable.
Time Needed: 2-3 hours per axle – set aside a good chunk of your Saturday.
Gear You'll Need: Jack, stands (never skip these!), lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner – and maybe a caliper tool if things are seized solid.
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get stuck in, mate, safety first! Never, ever get under the Coaster supported only by a jack – use proper axle stands. Grab some Nitrile Gloves to keep the hands clean and a pair of safety glasses to keep the brake dust out of your eyes. Give those new rotors a good blast with Brake Cleaner to get rid of any manufacturing gunk. And don't forget a dab of anti-seize grease on the caliper bolts to keep things sweet for next time.

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
