Description

Jeep Grand Cherokee & Commander Brake Rotor Replacement: A Kiwi DIY Guide
> Your Jeep's disc brake rotors are crucial for safe stopping. Over time, the friction from brake pads wears them down, especially on heavier SUVs or when you're tackling tough conditions. Warped or damaged rotors? That'll make braking dodgy and less safe, mate.

Spotting Trouble: Is it Time for New Rotors?
• Brake pedal feels like it's vibrating or pulsing when you brake.
• Brakes are making squealing or grinding noises.
• Taking longer to stop than usual.
• Rotors look scored, cracked, or rusty.

Will it pass WOF?
Worn or damaged disc brake rotors? Almost guaranteed to fail your WOF here in New Zealand. They've gotta be above minimum thickness and free from major damage to pass the test.

🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you get started, make sure you've got everything you need to do the job safely and properly. No point getting halfway through and realising you're short a vital bit!
• Safety First, Chum!: Grab some safety glasses to keep the metal dust out of your eyes. Trust me, you don't want that.
• Keep It Clean: Brake cleaner is your best mate for blasting away all that nasty carbon dust. Give everything a good spray down before you start pulling things apart.
• Glove Up: Protect your hands with some heavy-duty nitrile gloves. Brake dust is a bugger to get off, and you don't want it soaking into your skin.
• Grease is the Word: A dab of anti-seize caliper grease on the caliper bolts will make life much easier next time you're in there. Stops things seizing up.

Expert Recommendation
Replacing your rotors is a no-brainer for safe braking, especially on a big beast like your Jeep. RDA rotors are a solid choice, but CARFIX has a bunch of options to suit your budget and driving style. Remember, don't be a gumby – never get under a car supported only by a jack! Always use jack stands. Bob @ CARFIX is ready and waiting to sort you out with the right parts for your Jeep. Pop into Bob's Shop for a yarn!

Fitment Notes
Double-check those new rotors fit your exact Jeep Grand Cherokee or Commander – model year and trim level matter. Some Jeeps have different rotor sizes. Always do both rotors on an axle (both fronts or both rears) so your braking is even as!

🧰 What Else You'll Need:
• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
