D.I.Y. Disc Brake Rotor Swap for Toyota Hiace/Regius Ace — Using RDA Rotors
> Your work van's brakes are the difference between a safe delivery and a trip to the panel beaters. Over time, the rotors wear down from the pads doing their job, especially when you're hauling serious weight or constantly stopping and starting.
Spotting the Warning Signs
• Brakes sound like a flock of seagulls (squealing)
• The brake pedal is vibrating like crazy
• Taking longer to stop than you expect
• Rotors look scored, cracked, or rusty as
WOF Woes?
Dodgy brake rotors are a surefire way to fail your WOF. They need to be above the minimum thickness and in good nick to pass the test.
DIY or Get a Pro?
Difficulty: 6/10 (a bit fiddly, but doable)
Time Needed: 2-3 hours per axle
Gear You'll Need: Jack and stands, wheel wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, new brake pads (best to do them together).
🛠️ Bob's "Get It Done Right" Companion Checklist
Before you dive in, mate, let's make sure you're sorted:
• Safety First, Eh? Never, ever get under a vehicle supported *only* by a jack. Use proper axle stands, and give the van a good shake to be sure it's stable. Eye protection is a no-brainer too – those brake cleaner sprays can sting!
• Keep it Clean: Brake dust is nasty stuff. Give the area a good blast with Brake Cleaner before you start pulling things apart. It'll make the job heaps cleaner and safer.
• Protect the Mates: A bit of Caliper Grease on the caliper pins will keep everything sliding smoothly. Copper anti-seize is your friend here.
• Rubber Gloves: Protect your skin with a set of Nitrile Gloves. Brake fluid and general muck is not your friend.

Worn rotors are a major safety risk, especially on a hard-working van like yours. Replacing them gives you maximum stopping power and peace of mind. Call in to Bob's Shop and I'll happily help you find the right rotors for your Toyota Hiace or Regius Ace.

• Safety First: Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always secure it on heavy-duty safety jack stands.
• Brake Dust Protection: Keep a pack of Nitrile Gloves handy to protect your hands from grease and dust.
• Clean and Prep: Use Brake Cleaner to clean the anti-corrosion shipping oil off the new rotors before mounting the calipers.
• Lubrication: Apply caliper grease to caliper slide pins and pad contact points to prevent squealing.
